Nu-Swift International has introduced a low-toxic fire extinguisher as a successor to the company's CTC, CMB and Uni-Flash models. It is a 3Ib (1.36kg) extinguisher which is known as the BCF and is available with controllable discharge (Model 5000) or total discharge (Model 5003).
The BCF extinauisher is effective against fires involving live electrical equipment and wiring, small quantities of flammable liquids and used vehicle engines. In common with its predecessors it is pressure-clarge-operated. Of special advantage, discharge is much less toxic than the discharge of its predecessors and its fire-fighting potential is higher.
Although mainly intended for use on electrical equipment, the fire fighting agent, Bromochlorodifluoromethane (CBrCIF2) has all-round extinguishing efficiency. The extinguisher can put out flammable liquid
spill fires of 4), sq. ft. if used by an inexperienced operator, or of 12 sq. ft. if the fire fighter is experienced. It can also successfully tackle small fires involving materials such as wood, textile-fabrics, paper and so on.
A non-conductor of electricity, BCF can safely be used on live electrical equipment and wiring up to 40,000V. Harmless to natural fabrics, it causes little afterfire mess.
Model 5000 weighs 9Ib (4.1 kg), inclusive of wall bracket, and is 17iin. (45.1 cm) in height, its maximum projection when mounted in the bracket being 4in. (10.2cm). Model 5003 weighs 84Ib (3.7kg), inclusive of wall bracket, and is 16in. (40.6cm) in height; it has a maximum projection of nin. (8.6cm). In the case of both models, the operational range of discharge in still air is 6ft (1.8m) and the duration of the discharge is 15sec. The extinguisher can be re-loaded after use with pressure charge No. 36.
