• A truck carrying drums of acid, caustic soda, and ammonia crashed into a block of flats after the driver left his cab to ask for directions.
The incident happened in Iltracombe. Devon on Monday 116 September i. Residents were evacuated amid fears that the truck, operated by chemical company E&E, might explode. Two were treated for shock, but there were no other injuries.
A 200m exclusion zone was set up by police as council experts checked that the load was not leaking into the water supply. A crane was finally used to remove the truck.
