A long list of further applications by the railway companies appears in the current issue of the North Western "Applications and Decisions," although the long-deferred decisions on the applications of April, 1937, are expected daily.
These new applications are in respect of 26 places in the area of the North Western Licensing Authority and are for 41 motor vehicles of 78f tons, together with eight trailers of 11j tons. These are to replace 25 motor vehicles of 631 tons and six horse teams.

Ma. E. E. PAYNE has been appointed general manager of the machinery department of Edgar Allen and Co.. Ltd., the well-known steel-manufacturing concern of Sheffield.
THE ET. HON. LORD KENILWORTH has been elected president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders for the second year in succession. Ms. J. ALBERT THOMSON has been re-elected deputy-president, whilst MR. BENJAMIN KING and LT. -COL. PHILIP H. JOHNSON, C.B.E., D.S.O., have been elected vice-presidents.
MR. C. H. FoAN, whose portrait appears on this page, has been appointed manager of White Distributors (Great Britain), Ltd., which is the sole distributor of the White commercial vehicle in Great Britain and Ireland: To take up this position, he recently resigned the sales managership of Hands f Letchworth), Ltd. Mr. Foan served his apprenticeship with the Napier concern and, later, was associated with the Dennis and Solex companies.
