FIVE Lake District bus operators all made similar applications to the Northern Deputy Licensing Authority at Carlisle last week in connection with their excursion and tour licences. Each application was opposed by one . or more of the other operators, but, because of a purposely delayed start of half an hour, they were able to meet and resolve their differences out :if COWL
When Mr. G. W. Duncan, the Deputy Authority, took his seat, he was presented with a series of amended applications which went through unopposed in quick time.
Granting the applications, Mr. Duncan congratulated the applicants on the goodwill shown among themselves, adding: " I hope this is only the fore runner of further things on the same lines."
Mr. J. L. R. Croft, for Cumberland Motor Services, Ltd., and Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., said: "My legal friends and I cannot possibly agree that we will agree over everything or we would be Out of business!
BLACKPOOL " INVASION " BY LEYLAND
WHEN more than 80 Leyland singledeck buses converge on Blackpool from widely scattered parts of Lancashire tonight, a fleet of police cars will meet the " invaders " and escort them in smalll, batches to the Winter Gardens.
The occasion will be the annual works ball of Leyland Motors, Ltd. This major traffic operation is becoming. a familiar one to the Itcal police. Over 3,000 employees and their friends will be transported by vehicles they helped to make, from 142 picking-up points in the Preston, Leyland, Southport, Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn areas. The return trip will Like them practically to their own doorsteps.
