THE cheaper fares scheme which was brouglit into operation three months ago by the East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., has failed. This was reported to the South Eastern Traffic Commissioners, last week, when Mr. Percy Dodge, traffic manager, said the company did not want to go on with the idea now that its experimental period was over.
He explained that cheap half-day returns had been offered on three afternoons a week, which had cost the corn pany £650 in advertising and other expenses. However, during the three months there had been a drop of 846,739 in the number of passengers carried, compared with the same period last year.
'There is no evidence that the reduced fares have attracted any increased volume of traffic," he added.
Their application to end it was granted. 3m. DROP IN PASSENGERS
