CLLR. F. How-, a director of Hoults, Ltd, Newcastle upon Tyne, has resigned from Newcastle City Council because of pressure of business.
MR. J. W. McCsto has been elected president of the Canadian Automotive Transportation Asso'ciation. Mr. McCaig, who was born in Scotland, is head of Mace= Transport, Ltd., Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
MR. BASIL MONK, managing director of Trojan, Ltd, is to be Commanding Officer of the 32nd Battn. (Surrey) of the Home Guard, with the rank of Lieut.-Colonel. He commanded the same unit throughout-the war.
MR. J. D. SINCLAIR, technical tyre representative of the Dunlop Rubber Co. (Scotland), Ltd., has been appointed deputy district manager in Glasgow in succession to MR. J. W. R. WHITE, the new district marrager in Edinburgh.
MR. MATTHEW WALLACE, solicitor in Scotland to the British Transport Commission, is to retire on March 28, He will be succeeded by MR. CAMERON MILLER, at present Sheriff-substitute of Inverness, Moray, Nairn and 'Ross and Cromarty.
SIR ANDREW MCCANCE, D.Sc., LL.D., F.R.S., is to succeed SIR HENRY Guy, C.B.E., M.I.MEcH.E.. F.R.S., as chairman of the mechanical' engineering research board of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Sir Henry has been unanimously elected an honorary member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He was the Institution's secretary for many years.
MR. 1 F. JONES, A. M.1.1viech.E., A.M.Inst.T., MI.R.T.E., has resigned from the general managership of Halifax Transport Department to become transport manager and engineer to a well-known Manchester food manufacturer.
MR. R. GRESHAM Cooler, director of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, has been admitted to the fellowship of the Institute of Industrial Administration. This in turn conferred upon him founder-membership of the British institution of Management.
MR. B. 0. SHIRREFF HILTON, traffic manager of the Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co., Ltd., was last week given a long-service certificate by the chairman of the company, MR, R. W. Riau'. Mr. Hilton was one of 30 employees who have recently completed 25 years continuous service. There are now 144 employees who have served 25 years or over with the concern, and 13 of thes,, have completed over 40 years' continuous service.

MAJOR E. C. PECKHAM, chairman and managing director of Metalock (Britain), Ltd., who has recently returned from a business trip in North America. is now making a global journey by air.
MR. W. L. RussFir., eastern divisional engineer of the Road Haulage Executive, is to become Midland divisional engineer in succession to MR. R. MACKENZIE, who is to take up the general managership of Halifax Transport Department. Mr. Russell will be succeeded by MR. H. Q. HUDSON.
LEYLAND-SCAMMELL PLANS
IT is understood that a Leyland tractor I is being specially designed to incorporate the Scammell coupling gear. Other developments concerning Leyland Motors, Ltd., and Scarnmell Lorries, Ltd., are believed to be under negotiation, but no confirmation could be obtained from either company late on Tuesday. It is, however, known that there is no question of an amalgamation of the companies.
