A LEEDS operator's interim authority for extra vehicles has been cancelled following the withdrawal of its bid for 16 additional vehicles and a change of operating centre.
The company K. Smart Ltd holds a licence authorising three vehicles and had interim authority to operate nine more. Its application is being opposed by the Road Haulage Association When the case first came before North Eastern Deputy Licensing Authority George Smedley, it was adjourned for 10 days because the company had changed its solicitor at the last minute. (CM. January 18).
Withdrawing the application, Ronald Sedler for the company, said that since the last occasion the company has been unexpectedly reconstructed.
The original directors were bought out the day before the hearing and entirely new directors and management had instructed him to withdraw the application.
There is the possibility of a new application in the future.
Smedley commented that the company was the same legal entity and he pointed out that the interim authority expired ar the end of the month when the company would be left with just three vehicles.
RHA counsel Stephen Kirkbright argued successfully for the interim licence to end immediately.
