MEGOT1ATIONS on the introduction
of Liner Trains are to be resumed in earnest in the New Year. This was made clear by Dr. Beeching when he met union leaders last week to ratify the railway pay agreement.
At the meeting, Dr. Beeching appealed to the unions to " enter the spirit" ofthe Railway Staff National Tribunal's call for more productivity and co-operation, and A.S.L.E.F. and N.U.R. representatives responded in a fairly promising manner On Liner Trains.
It was agreed that there should be a full-scale meeting in January to thrash out the problem once more. From the unions' attitude it is obvious that they will -want something in return for co-operation. In the ca-se of the Liner Trains The N.U.R. may be satisfied with a more far-reaching guarantee of " no redundancies among its cartage mem
bers.
