• MAN's replacement for the F2000 long-haul tractor range—due in 1999— has been spotted during on-road trials in southern Germany by CM's sister magazine Truck (Truck January 1998).
The cab appears to be lifted above the engine and chassis compartment, in common with the Renault Magnum and the Mercedes Actros MegaSpace. This would give a completely flat floor.
With a high roof it is almost flush with the trailer so there is standing room inside, and a near-vertical screen also maximises the driver's living space.
Aerodynamics should be improved over the current F2000 thanks to a smooth door and side panels, largeradius cab corners and roof.
It is thought two new inline-six engines will replace the current five and six-cylinder engines and the ageing vee-10 at 600hp. These will use common-rail fuel injection.
The trucks will be fitted with electronically controlled disc brakes front and rear, and adaptive cruise control (ACC) as an option.
The cab looks almost finished but the grille panel is a disguise which will be changed before the launch.
