in charge of highvalue loads to be vigilant after the arrest of three people believed to be connected with an armed hi-jack in north London. Barnet police are asking drivers to contact their local police if faced with "unusual enquiries" over the load or any suspicion of being followed.
The three were arrested when police raided a warehouse following a tip-off. The Burton Group truck, which had been carrying clothes worth 2160,000, was also recovered. The three suspects are on police bail and will be questioned again soon.
The 50-year old Northamptonshire lorry driver had been hi-jacked when he stopped in a lay-by on the A41 southbound carriageway near Bushey in London. Two men entered the cab, one brandishing a hand gun. The driver was driven away in the truck by the robbers and then transferred to the boot of a white saloon car. He was kept there for nearly four hours.
