Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An American-designed labelling system which detects temperature changes on loads of chilled foods is being marketed in the UK by Londonbased Chillfresh.

The device, featured last week on the BBC's Tomorrow's World programme, uses labels which change colour if the temperature of a product rises dangerously high. The colour cannot change back again, so the haulier or customer knows that a particular package is unfit when it is delivered. The labels cost 3p each.

Chillfresh also has a more complex bar-coded system, which uses a computer to track the temperature of a consignment from the start to the end of its journey.

This costs from £6,000 and Chillfresh has already received an order for the system from a dairy company.
