• HGV operating costs rose by 2% during the first half of the year, and increases for light CVs were nearer 3% — but overall haulage rates increased by less than 1%, according to the latest update of the Freight Transport Association's Manager's Guide to Distribution Costs.
The guide also reveals that the rate of increase in payments for overnight subsistence over the past six months has been much lower, at 1.6%. It says that the increased interest by the Indland Revenue in such tax-free payments may well be a contributing factor in this low figure.
As well as looking at trends in haulage rates the guide, which is available to FTA members for £52.50, includes an analysis of the relationship between rates paid and the distance over which goods are moved.
In conjunction with this latest edition of its guide, the FTA is publishing a new section dealing with distribution costs and systems.
