I READ WITH interest VOSA's plans to close down all its regional Traffic Area Offices (CM 25 August).
It cannot he right that a government organisation such as this can make a decision that would have such far-reaching effects in the haulage industry and initially decide not to consult on the matter.] applaud the union involved and VOSA staff themselves for kicking up enough of a fuss to make it think twice.
I am based in Norfolk. If VOSA centralises its operation to somewhere like Leeds and removes all the regional offices, will I become an even tinier consideration for a bureaucratic set-up, based miles away? It seems to me that VOSA is relying far too much on its TAN21 service to cover areas that once upon a time humans managed adequately. The system is flawed, as I note CM also touched on last week.
I will not be surprised in the slightest if! find myself reading more and more about innocent hauliers hauled before a Traffic Commissioner for what will eventually be discovered to be simple administrative errors.
