LIGHTLIGHT-ALLOY van bodies are being made by A. E. Freezer -ALLOY Co., Ltd.. Hayling Island, Hants, a concern formerly chiefly engaged upon the building of launches,. barges and dinghies on behalf of their associated company, the Fairmile Construction Co., Ltd., Cobham, Surrey.
Two vans have been constructed for grocery service with H. G. Kingham and Co., Ltd. They incorporate Thames 3-ton chassis reinforced to take 5-ton loads. Oak cross-pieces were first laid upon the chassis as a basis for metal longitudinals of channel section.
These support double-channel lateral members to which the floor planking is attached. Body framing-is of Southern Forge top-hat section, and the interior is half-lined with Birrnabright I6-gauge sheet. Exterior cladding is of 20;gauge material.
A Brady roller shutter is fitted at the rear, also 'a Flettner ventilator. The finish consisted of a primer of etching chromate. three undercoats and two topcoats.
