Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new range of UniDump Tandem Tip and Tandem Dump tipping trailers, incorporating a number of major modifications, has been announced by Neville Truck Equipment Ltd, Kirkbyin-Ashfield, Notts. Changing the position of the radial arms from outside the body to the underside has allowed the internal body width to be increased from 61t 7in. to 7ft 2in. on standard models with capacities up to 20 Cu yd, and to 7ft 7in. On single-axle vehicles of over 20 cu yd capacity or two-axle machines of 30 cu yd or higher capacity. Bodies of 6ft 7in. internal width are available for special applications. Increasing the width provides for the use of a lower or shorter body to carry a given load.

The weight saved by repositioning the radial arms and by employing a radiused body frame is, for example 1 /1-icwt in the case of a NUD 24-ton-gross single-axle machine and 2cwt on an NTT 28-ton-gross 17 cu yd tandem-axle outfit, the tare weights of the two vehicles being 2 tons 19cwt and 3 tons 18cwt 2qr respectively.

Other modifications include an increase in the torsional rigidity of the radial arms, a rubbing plate of larger area, fighter capping rails that have the same torsional strength as the rails they replace, a curved headboard, pressed-steel radius ribs and improved protection of the rear lights.

Uni-Dump models are equipped with a single York 10-ton axle having chevron rubber springs while the Tandem Tip has a standard four-spring running gear with two 9-ton axles. Fully articulated, the Tandem Dump bogie is based on two 10-ton York axles and two pairs of chevron rubber springs.

The range covers gross ratings of 24 tons to 32 tons, the. later machines having capacities of 20 cu yd, 30 cu yd and 40 cu yd. Specials are available with capacities exceeding 50 cu yd.
