Spreading tentacles
THE FIRST of the lightweight Leyland Octopus eight-wheel lightweight trucks are now roiling off the production line and the first will go to Genef ax Transport of Worksop, Notts.
Their vehicles will have dropside bodies and be used for carrying palletised materials from the company base to South Wales.
Contracts conduct
THE Road Haulage Association's tipper group has issued a new code of conduct which they have asked councils and other hirers to include in their contracts.
The code is designed to ensure that the contractor obeys all rules and regulations which apply to his vehicle and also contains a warning to the drivers that they should also obey or be liable to " disciplinary action."
Euro market
CARRYFAST express parcels have formed a new company to market their international services to offer customers a new range of groupage and air freight services.
A panel of European carriers will be providing a link with the UK. The new company will be based at Carryfast's Feltham depot.
Ro-ro boost
TOWNSEND Thoresen's ro-ro service from Dover to Calais and Zeebrugge got a boost this week with the arrival of the new ferry European Clearway.
She will be operating to return freight sailings daily on the routes in addition to up to 12 sailings a day by the company's other ferries.
Rising prices
SEDDON diesels have reduced an application to the Prices Commission to increase the prices of their vehicles. The application 'has been reduced from 3.54 per cent to a 3.53 per cent increase.
United Carriers have also modified an application to increase the rates from 3.8 per cent to 2.4 per cent.
