According to recent press reports: • Residents in Barrow Gurney, Somerset, claim 10,000 vehicles a day are being directed by sat-nay systems through their quiet village on the way to Bristol Airport.
• Drivers following sat-nay systems between Swaledale and Wensleydale in North Yorkshire are often directed along a steep, twisting gravel track at the edge of a 30m cliff. Local residents report helping at least one driver a week.
• Dozens of drivers recently followed d rections from their sat-nay systems straight through a ford in the Wiltshire village of Luckington. Up to two motorists a day had lobe towed out after failing to notice, or ignoring, the local warning signs.
• Recovery crews took four hours to free a Scania that ended up wedged between two houses in Shepshed, Leicestershire, last month. The owner of one of the houses said it was the eighth time her property had been hit by an LGV trying to get through and added that all the drivers involved had blamed their sat-nay units.
• Health chiefs in Sunderland apologised in May after it took almost two hours to take a girl, who had been injured in a car accident, to hospital from Gateshead after an ambulance was first directed by a sat-nay unit down a street that was too narrow for it and then sent on a meandering route back to the hospital.
