AHAULIER who stated that he genuinely believed that he was legally entitled to carry 'coal for -30 miles without permit because of an emergency condition attached to his licence was fined £58 10s. with £15 15s. costs at Mansfield, last week.
Frank Salmon, Ekrington Road, Mansfield, appeared on 39 charges of permitting three B-licensed lorries to carry loads beyond the 25-mile limit. Mr. F. B. Pears, for the East Midland Licensing Authority, stated that the defendant carried on behalf of Road Hauliers (East Midlands), Ltd. He was an experienced operator and understood the conditions of his licence and should forfeit any profit made.
It was stated that Salmon had received £364 for the work. On behalf of Salmon, Mr. B. H. Hopkin pleaded guilty.
