• The Institute of Waste Management looks set to back down over plans to move its annual conference and exhibition from Torbay to Silverstone in the face of pressure from exhibitors and manufacturers.
Last week the IWM announced plans to make the move in 1997. But many major exhibitors opposed any change of venue. "We want to be fair and look at all the options again," says the !WM. "Most importantly we want to keep everything together and take everyone with us." The decision to move was taken because the event has outgrown the Torbay site, says the institute: particularly the inside arena.
But Seddon Atkinson says: "We protested along with all the others about moving from Torbay and we would dispute there isn't enough space there." Foden adds: "We were disappointed to hear of the move and if it goes we will take a serious look at whether we back it in the long term."
Next year IWM show is scheduled for 10-12 June— venue undecided.
