WIRE Blackpool tradesmen's annual 1 holiday, which commenced en May llth, provided an opportunity for the local motor coach owners to put all their vehicles into service, and during the whole period of the holiday there were net only day trips north, south and east (hardly westward), but extended tours to all parts of the country.
The 30 local motor coach owners provided a very diversified programme at extraardinarily cheap rates. For instance, one 'owner, Mr. W. B. Crossley, organized a two-days' tour visiting all the finest beauty spots in the Lake District, for the moderate sum of 35s., a figure which included late dinner, bed and breakfast.
Messrs. Standerwicks, who hade fleet of 28-seater Tilling-Stevens coaches, ran two two-days' tours at a fare of 21s., in addition to a series of one-day trips. One of these was to North Wales, returning to • Chester on . the second day, and allowipg five hours' stay In enable passengers who wished to to attend the race meeting at Chester.
Several owners arranged to " cover " -the British Empire Exhibition with three, five, seven and eight days' extended tours to the south of England, allowing for a break in London. The fares far some of the motor coach visits to London were from £2 10s. return upwards. The Lake District and Derbyshire routes seemed to have been well covered by Blackpool owners dining the holiday week.
W. Marshall and Son, Ltd., who operate a number of Mandslay coaches, served up a well-arranged programme at fares which included meals and hotel accommodation. Their arrangements were as folkaw :—(1) Eight-days' tour to Bournemouth, London, Wembley, Warwick, Oxford, Winchester, Bedford, Leicester, Derby, Matlock and Buxton, £10; (2) five-days' tour to Wye Valley and Wales, Hereford, Becklgelerta Conway Valley, Llandudno, £6 6s. ; (3) twodays' run in the Lake District, £2; (4) four-days' tour to Harregate, 13ridliegton and York, £4 17s. 6d.
