ON the ground that the applicants were changing the nature of their business, the Northern Licensing Authority on Tuesday refused an application by D. Tarren (Transport), Ltd., Thornaby-on-Tees, for an ordinary A licence for a platform vehicle to replace special A licences for two tippers of about 3 tons ertah. Hauliers in the area regard this decision as highly significant.
FIGHT OVER LOADING BAN THE fight against the proposal of the
Ministry of Transport to ban loading and unloading in certain street in Slough was carried a stage further on Wednesday. A meeting to re-examine the Ministry's draft regulations was held between representatives of the Traders' Road Transport Association, Road Haulage Association, Slough Chamber of Commerce, the municipal authority and the Ministry.
It is proposed to prohibit loading and unloading between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in parts of seven streets. "No waiting" is to be enforced between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. in 11 streets„and one-way traffic in four streets.
ECONOFREIGHT CASE PUT OFF
THE hotly contested application by Econofreight Transport, Ltd., Stockton-on-Tees, which was to have been heard on Tuesday, has been adjourned by agreement until May 31. The company are applying to the Northern Licensing Authority for an A licence for six vehicles of 8 tons each. to be acquired, and for a tanker for the transport of bulk cement. There arc 33 objectors. Mr. F. Milton, of the Road Haulage Association, is to appear for 31 of them.
SERVICES FROM NEW TOWN
NEW coach services from Harlow New Town, Essex. have been authorized. Messrs. Wright Bros.. Harlow, have been granted licences for an express service to Clacton and Matching Tye, and for tours to Clacton, Hastings, Whipsnade, Eastbourne, Chessington Zoo and Walthamstow Stadium.
Hicks Bros., Ltd.. are to run an express service to Clacton; Messrs. Hiss Bros.. tours to Southsea and Herne Bay: and Eastern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., an express service to Felixstowe.

THE latest 'steel structures for storage buildings made by Sanders and Forster, Ltd., Hertford Road, Barking, Essex, are to a design based on a novel theory and a substantial saving in materials has been realized. The absence of conventional built-up trusses, and the elimination of caps and base-plates and projecting cleats on stanchions, are stated to simplify loading for transport.
