• Tibbett & Britten has won two contracts worth up to £50m a year for logistics support for the Burton Group clothing retailer.
It beat off a number of rival logistic companies understood to have included Salvesen and Hays Distribution.
The contracts, which are described as "long-term", will begin in January when Burton separates its Debenhams department store from its other clothes shops, which will be run as a new company, called Arcadia.
Tibbett & Britten will take on around 2,500 of Burton's existing logistics staff.
The contracts, for warehousing, distribution and supply chain management services, strengthen Tibbett & Britten's hold of the retail sector. Its other retail clients include Asda, B&Q, Marks & Spencer, Next, Sainsbury's and Tesco.
John Harvey, chairman and chief executive of Tibbett & Britten, says: "This supports our view that the UK sector continues to offer important new business opportunities." He adds that the deal underlines the acceleration of the move to third-party logistics as major companies focus on their core business activities.
