A TRIO OF POOR MAINTENANCE reports have resulted in the licence held by Welsh tipper operator Michael Gwyn Jones being suspended for II days over the Christmas and New Year period.
Hirwaun-based Jones. who holds a licence for eight vehicles and two trailers, appeared before the Welsh Deputy Traffic Commissioner Alan Bourlet at a Cardiff disciplinary inquiry which revealed there had been three poor maintenance reports.
Vehicle examiner Stephen Cook said he examined six vehicles during an unannounced fleet check in March, issuing three defect notices mainly for shock absorber holding-down bolts shearing on new Foden vehicles. It appeared that there was a manufacturing fault, as il was a problem he had come across repeatedly on nevi Fodens. It had no adverse effect on handling unless al' the shock absorbers were affected. There were alsc gaps in the six-weekly inspection cycle.
Jones said the vehicles operated over rough terrair but added that he had now resolved his maintenance problems and personally did a daily walk-roune vehicle check.
For Jones, Paul Carless said some of the gaps ir the inspection records were the result of records no always being returned by the maintenance contrac tor. In future, Jones would request the records befori paying the invoice.
Making the suspension order,the DTC pointed ou that there had been three unsatisfactory maintenanc reports and an interview with the review board.
