• VVV's Transporter is now cheaper across the range, with the 800 Special costing E10,995 (ex-VAT). The LT range has gone up by 3.1%, but gains an engine immobiliser and tie-down rings as standard. The Caddy Pickup is up to £7,070 (ex-VAT).
• MNS Transport claims to have tripled tyre life on its triaxle curtainsided semi-trailer by using an SAF self-steering rear axle. It also says that in 20 months there have been no brake changes and minimal brake adjustment.
• A management buyout has acquired transport and cargo handling equipment manufacturer from Folkes Group for £4m. The buyout was headed by managing director Steve Turners who joined the company in 1990 as technical director. Folkes Group is not the buyer as reported in CM last week.
• European Engine Components is now the UK stockist for Italian piston manufacturer Mondial Piston. The company distributes engine components for Daf Mercedes, Volvo and Scam° • Curtis Fine Papers has bought five Nene curtainsided trailers for its distribution arm Scotflow, Their reinforced laminated hardwood floors and cross-bearers are spaced at just 300mm to withstand small-wheeled trucks which load paper reels almost 2.5m in diameter.
• Bradford-based supermarket chain Morrisons has 10 new ERF EC1 1 6x2 trac and has ordered another 22. The new units will be used to support its new frozen food warehouse near theiv11 at Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
