Barrie Travis, editor of Heavy Commercial edition of the Red Book, says: "The reputation of the EPS gearbox stuck with Actros when it was introduced back in 1997 but the Telligent transmission has proven to be more reliable. However, operators were put off by the high electronic content and used truck prices at auction were lower than might have been expected. Mercedes-Benz got behind the range and Wentworth Park put together a good second-hand package that must have been hard to refuse. Although the V6 engine is not exceptionally economical on fuel, it is not bad and the long-haul cab does the job. A three-year-old 1843 4x2 tractor retails at about 126,250, while a 6x2 2543 of the same age with a midlift axle sells for 129,000. That is good value for a truck with such a high specification.
