A recent sale at the company's Colchester site saw Iveco For Cargo 75E15 curtainsiders, 1997 on an R plate, with 22ft bodies, fet{ £9,500 to £9,850 apiece. A 1998 on an S plate with a 24ft flatbed bor went for £9,000.
A 1998 Mercedes-Benz Atego box van on an R plate put in a parti ularly good performance: it fetched £14,750.
Recently promoted from commercial sales manager to nation HGV/plant manager, Martell believes the shortage of late-registerE low-mileage trucks at auction will ease dramatically in 2001. "7f floodgates will open," he predicts.
Manufacturers have attempted to keep sales of these ex-contra vehicles within their networks, and have had some success in doir so, but dealers cannot cope with the volumes flooding back fro operators. "As a consequence manufacturers will be looking at alte native disposal routes," he says.
