• A significant impact on car logistics is expected following Vauxhall's announcement that car production at its Luton plant will cease in 2002, AutoLo0c Holdings' subsidiary Walon, which handles most of its car deliveries, is likely to be worst hit.
Northampton-based Acumen Services, another AutoLogic subsidiary brings in parts from abroad for Vauxhall, but marketing and sales director Fergus Smith plays down the
potential impact of the announcement: "All we can say is yes, we are going to lose business, but we will still be left with a considerable amount of work with Vauxhall."
Smith adds that the lost business will be offset by the launch of a new van at Luton. About 100 people work on Acumen's Vauxhall car contract; most of them are subcontractors. Hays Automotive's contract with Vauxhall was due to terminate independently of the closure.
