A keen and interested audience attended the lecture by S.T.R., The Commercial Motor costs expert, when he addressed members of the Nottingham and District Industrial Traffic Club
on the subject of costs. Mr. F. C. Allen was in the chair, and there were present several transport managers to the larger ancillary users in and around Nottingham.
S.T.R. pointed out that, under present conditions, it had become more important than ever for transport managers to have accurate knowledge of the cost of operating their vehicles. Railway companies and haulage contractors were vieing with each other to obtain contracts for haulage from the larger ancillary users and, unless the traffic manager was well aware of his costs, he was not in a position to judge of the merits of any offer which came before him.
He then outlined a method of keeping costs, based on the scheme on which The Commercial Motor Tables of Operating Costs are founded.
The discussion continued long beyond the usual period.
