MANAGERS IN THE transport and logistics sectors are more likely to work over their contracted hours than their counterparts in most other industries.
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) reports 94% of managers in the sector work longer hours to ensure meeting deadlines.
Petra Wilton, head of public affairs at CMI, says in most other sectors fewer than 90% of managers work extra hours.
In the longer term there is clear evidence that working long hours has a detrimental affect in performance and productivity. It can also lead to poor health."
The CMI survey also showed managers in the transport sector are not being forced to work long hours but are doing so because liey have heavy workloads and are keen to meet their deadlines and retain contracts.
