BUILDERS' MERCHANT Elliotts has taken delivery of four new Iveco Stralis Active Day 26-tonne rigids for use on its multi-drop operations.
The 6x2 rear-steer trucks will join nine other Stralis units already in Hampshire-based Elliotts' existing 27-vehicle fleet this continues the firm's trend for replacing 18-tonners with 26-tonners.
Tony Adams, commercial director at Elliotts, says: "A 26-tonner can be driven by the same person who drove the old 18-tonne vehicles, yet the payload is nearly double. This increases productivity because less time is spent going to and from the branch, making our fleet more fuel-efficient.
'Factor in the rear-steering axle on the larger Strata; which makes them more agile than any 18-tonner in our fleet, and it's a winwin situation.'
Each of the new vehicles comes with frontair suspension, axle weight indicators and lveco's automated EuroTronic gearbox.
Elliott has also specified a dropside body and Hiab XS crane, plus parking sensors.
