As a standalone van, without the addition of the XTR+ modifications, the Citroen Berlingo is a competitive machine, that challenges (but not conquersI the likes of Volkswagen's Caddy.
However, the company has given its small van a real selling point thanks to the addition of the off-road modifications, which makes it ideal for the likes of utility and delivery companies that venture away from secure conditions into lessaccommodating terrain, including slippery roads and steep inclines.
There's more than enough grip to get you through muddy paths and soak up uneven surfaces... to a point.
If you think the XTR+ will battle through true off-road terrain, you are likely to come unstuck, or stuck, as it were.
The Lack of all-wheel-drive and a torqueheavy engine means that it will only be classed for 'considered use.
And the Citroen is likely to only sell in small numbers, so residuals will never attain the heights of a standard vehicle, and yet we still like it for its practical and inexpensive solution to an issue that is becoming more prevalent as the weather decides to follow its own agenda.
