WINCANTON Group's net profits for the year ending 31st March, 1984, increased by 25% from f6.4M to E8M, it was announced last week.
"In 1983/4 the group has seen strong progress in many of the operational areas, and the resulting profit increase reflects highly on all group employees," said David Yeomans, Wincanton Group managing director.
One of the four sectors, Wincanton Transport Group, saw continued expansion through growth in non-milk, bulk food, movement, chilled distribution, fleet transfer and commercial vehicle rentals. Because of the new EEC regulations on milk quotas, the Group's dependence on milk has lessened. Wincanton Vehicle Rentals and Auto-Rentals contracts will be greatly assisted in the coming year through co-ordinated operation with a limited resource finance company, according to the report.
The group acquired on July 7 the vehicles and tank trailers operated by Everard Transport Services and Thomason & Kelley. The equipment totals 27 tractive units and 43 bulk tank trailers which will be deployed throughout Wincanton's national network of depots.
