THE ROYAL Air Force is using Joloda systems to move weapons in and out of storage igloos.
A latticed arrangement of steel or aluminium tracks, recessed into a concete screed laid in the floor of the building, converts it into a scaled-up version of a Joloda-equipped vehicle floor.
Twenty tonnes capacity hydraulic skates move loads rang ing from standard pallets to 6m (19.7ft) long unit loads, stacked three high.
The RAF is expecting some 20 years' life from its Joioda skates and track which replaces fork lift trucks. Major advantages of the system in this application are that no power is required, initial and running costs are low, floor space utilisation is very good, and the risk of dangerous collision damage is minimal.
