DAF BUS has introduced a more powerful version of its midengined heavyweight coach running gear unit. Coded MB 200 DKVL, it complements the current DKFL, which continued as DAF's mainstream offering for mid-engined semi-intergral construction coaches.
Like the DKFL, the MB 200 DKVL has DAF's 11.6 litre engine horizontally mounted between the axles, but rated at a nett installed 276bhp (BS Au) compared with the 256bhp for the DKFL. Maximum torque is 7881b.ft.
Power is transmitted to the Daf single reduction drive axle via a ZF 6-speed synchromesh gearbox with 2-speed splitter.
Daf says it was evident that there was sufficient demand for a higher powered chassis from operators who prefer the more traditional underfloor mid-engined layout to justify bringing in a new model.
The Daf variant is aimed at the luxury, long distance touring, sector and has been equipped with 100-gallon fuel tanks compared with the 77-gallon capacity of the DKFL. The tanks are rear-mounted for improved weight distribution and to give bodybuilders flexibility with body specifications.
A road speed limiter and variable cruise control are included as standard equipment for im proved motorway fuel economy and safety.
A number of engineering improvements have been incorporated in the chassis following inservice evaluation on the DKFLs.
The MB 200 DKVL has an allwelded frame specifically engineered for semi-integral body construction. Daf says this is now acknowledged to be more durable than conventional chassis-based coach designs.
Full air-suspension on the rear axle provides the stability and standard of ride demanded of high specification coaches in this category.
The MB 200 DKVL has already been released to major bodybuilders and is now available *through the Daf Bus dealer network.
Suppliers of the new DKVL will be limited, although it will be available in far greater quantity than has been reported for a recently announced competitor, according to DAF.
The list price of the 276bhp DKVL IS £33,500. This includes automatic membership of the Daf Bus aid emergency service scheme for the first twelve months. Driveline cover (Power Train Protector-PTP 24) is also offered.
