THE Department of Transport has reduced the load on two motorway bridges on the M1 in Derbyshire between junctions 29 (Heath) and 30 (Barlborough).
The existing bridges will be spanned by temporary bridges in the inside lanes which will be used by heavy goods vehicles. Lighter vehicles will use the outside lanes on the existing bridges.
These precautionary measures will safeguard against the possible effects of subsidence from mining beneath the M 1, and erection of the temporary bridges is expected to be completed in seven weeks.
