which should help young people find jobs in the haulage industry. The scheme, which gained much of its initial impetus from London RHA member Graham Manchester, is in two parts, aimed at employers and prospective employees.
Employers — initially RHA members in the south-east — will be issued questionnaires asking questions like how many, if any, staff they are likely to take on in the next year, and whether school-leavers and other young people will be considered for any positions.
Young people who would like jobs within the industry will also be given questionnaires covering such areas as qualifications, willingness to relocate, salary/wage expectations and types of job or training sought. Working through the southeastern district office of the RHA, Manchester hopes to use the answers to the employers' questionnaires in making presentations to prospective young employees.
