Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• What is claimed to be the first complete range of flat platform semi-trailers to be built to metric dimensions has been announced by Taskers Trailers Ltd. To be known as the Formula 1 metric range, the trailers have been developed from the company's Formula 8 dual-purpose and skeletal container-carrying semi-trailers.

To cope with the production of F l(M) semi-trailers, Taskers have extended their manufacturing facilities by 21,000sqft, aiming at a weekly output of 50 of the new trailers.

There are eight models in the range, comprising of singleand tandem-axle units. Included are two wide-spread axle trailers designed to operate under the proposed increases in gross trailer weights and designated F l(M) 2 x 2. Features of the F l(M) are that strength, safety and style, still incorporating a low tare weight, have been designed into the unit. I-section cross-bearers, fabricated to reduce weight, are threaded through the beams at 500mm intervals to give maximum support to the close-boarded platform with rebated joints that afford effective protection against water thrown up onto the underside.

With side raves flush or raised, the floor width permits a standard ISO container to fit between the raves.

Improvements also include a load-restraining headboard that is braced to the main frame, extended forward for this purpose. Corner posts do not intrude into the platform load space and corners are radiused to prevent sheet damage.

Further attention to the fifth-wheel subframe assembly by Taskers has improved its flatness and strength while a pronounced "wrap up" on the front of the trailer eases coupling and protects the trailer unit.

Rubery Owen and Rockwell axles and suspensions are incorporated in the range and the tandem running gear used requires no lubrication. Also the tandem axle has been designed to obviate semi-trailer hop.

Trailer leg gear of heavy square section construction is available with optional singleor two-speed gear with hexagon end and detachable handle or with a choice of push/ pull two-speed gearbox with a captive handle.
