a memorandum of understanding with the Noise Abatement Society (NAS), which will see the two parties work together to reduce noise on night-time deliveries.
As CM revealed last week, the FTA and NAS have drawn up 'robust guidelines' to improve delivery reliability, reduce road congestion and cut the impact of air pollution in urban areas. They also want night-time deliveries to be more achievable for local authorities throughout the UK.
Some of the key procedures identified by the FTA and the NAS to reduce noise during night-time deliveries include driver and staff training, the use of rubber matting and dock curtains and a strict roll cage, g door and radio noise policy.
; The move comes after a three-month 2 night-time delivery trial at a large south London supermarket. This showed that decibel levels, journey times, fuel economy air quality and stock turnaround were all reduced. The supermarket also received no noise complaints from residents.
Natalie Chapman, FTA regional policy manager for London and the South-East, says: "We are working to show that journey times, fuel economy and air quality can be improved without affecting local residents' right to a good night's sleep."
