The money granted for relief works (highways) was spent ehieffyt in converting old bouldered streets to concrete roads. The length dealt with was 3,411 yards, comprising 31 streets. The area of concrete was 21,369 yard; and the average cost 16s. 6d. per yard, including_ excavation and foundation work.
The area of asphaltic roads has increased from 106.000 yards to 141,000 yards.
