VJEHICLE exports for August were V somewhat lower than the totals for previous months, largely because of holidays It is thought, too, that some overseas buyers were marking time in expectation of the devaluation of the pound.
Nevertheless, commercial-v chicle manufacturers shipped 6,577 units (including industrial trucks and trailers) of the value of £2,897,238. These figures compare with 6,527 units, valued at £3,084.865 for July.
For the first eight months of the year the number of vehicles exported was 64,757, valued at £28,715,152. During August, Australia took 1,991 vehicles (£721,956), making a total of imports from this country, since January, of 9.891 vehicles valued at £3,770,158. Australia is our biggest single overseas market. South Africa and India retained their respective positions of second and third, with imports of £1,461,189 and £1,264,077.
