gross weight stamped on the trailer would be, for example, 30 tons g.v.w. which would include the tractive unit weight, trailer weight and the weight of the load? This has been my assumption especially as a trailer on its own does not constitute a vehicle and I therefore feel that the tractive unit weight must be included on the plate.
AIt is incorrect to assume that the trailer
should have the maximum gross train weight at which it is intended to be used stamped on its plate. The figure here should be the maximum gross weight of the semitrailer alone, that is gross weightfor which the unit is designed. Admittedly the trailer on its own does not constitute a vehicle but the gross train weight that an outfit can operate at is determined by the figures stamped on the tractive unit plate and, of course, the actual configuration of the outfit—whether three, four or five axles.
