its bond with Scania, to counter DaimlerChrysler's market dominance. With a worldwide sales alliance Hino plans to branch out into many developing countries.
Another reason for the planned alliance is the global growth in demand for CVs, according to the influential Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
Should such a deal come to fruition, Scania and Hino's first step would be to enter the four-tonne market in South Korea next April.
This would be the first ever foray into South Korea by a Japanese manufacturer; Nino would be looking for a market share of about 10% within three years.
Hino and Scania entered a partnership back in 2002, after DaimlerChrysler expanded its ties with Mitsubishi Fuso. However, this deal was limited to the Japanese market, Hino has been selling Scan as in Japan since 2003.
