Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I N the face of strong opposition by local interests (The Commercial Motor, January 1), a licence to operate coach tours on the Isle of Man was granted by Douglas Corporation to Sheffield United Tours, Ltd., last week.

A deputation from the Isle of Man Coach Owners' Association had told the council licensing sub-committee that Manx operators already provided vehicles for other English tours promotors, and could serve S.U.T. in a similar manner.

When S.U.T. tours were started in 1959, the company were asked if they would hire Manx coach owners to carry out trips on the island, reported the town clerk. The company had stated that their whole business had been built up on the policy of employing their own vehicles.

Support for S.U,T. came from the Isle of Man Tourist Board and the Isle of Man Airports Board. The S.U.T. licence for 1960 will allow only passengers booked from and to Sheffield return to be carried.
