Jam replying to the letter "No licence" (CM 8-14 Jan).
I cannot see how the writer of the letter could contemplate tendering for work available if he does not have the tools to do the job. A simple analogy is that a doctor could not practice without having first undergone the necessary training for the job.
There is also more than paying out £400 for a CPC course. The LA checks finances and in these days of stricter maintenance checks it will not grant a licence without adequate finance behind the applicant.
As for using a "ghost" transport manager I would strongly advise against it. Employ a full-time manager or sit the exam and tender for work at a later date.
We are reading far too much about people operating vehicles without licences. No one is suggesting that this company is a cowboy outfit but the day it does one job without the proper licence it becomes just that.
