VSTABLISHMENT of trunk road J__+haulage services ffiroughout South Africa, and construction of a £5,000,030 oil refinery at Durban, are projects on which Ald. Charles Holdsworth, of Halifax, the Yorkshire road transport pioneer, is reported to have been working during his tour of South Africa.

According to " The Yorkshire Observer," Ald. Holdsworth said that the outcome of his discussions. with the authorities on road haulage was still in the balance, but he thought they would be successful. He and his associates aimed to provide a type of service similar to that which they ran with over 1,000 vehicles in Britain before the undertakings were acquired by the .British Transport Commission.

The Association is critical of the attitude adopted by Licensing Authorities towards vehicles of this width. It urges operators to continue to press applications for approved routes and not readily to accept the decision that a particular route is unsuitable. .

NEW R.H.A. SUB-AREA ASUB-AREA of the Road Haulage Association has been set up in Pembrokeshire. Formerly, Pembrokeshire was part of the Carmarthen and district sub-area, the remainder of which will, in future, be known as the Carmarthenshire Cardiganshire subarea.

Mr. F. H. Gough, of Milford Haven, is chairman of the new sub-area. Mr. J. William.s, of Letterston, is vice-chairman, and MR. W. ROWLANDS. of Haverfordwest, is honorary secretary.
