lyjoRK. will begin next month on WY the foundations of what Sir Brian Robertson, chairman of the British Transport Commission, last week described as the most up-to-date haulage depot in the country, and perhaps in the world. It is for British Road Services and will occupy a 14-acre site at Low Fell, Co. Durham, on the Team Valley Estate.
It will be designed to handle both general and parcels traffic. It will be connected to the railways and will have the most modern mechanical-handling equipment. There will be 70,000 sq. ft. of warehouse accommodation and 35,000 sq. ft. of covered area for parking vehicles and handling goods in transit.
About 250 B.R.S. vehicles will be based at the Low Fell depot and regular services will be run to all parts of the country.
