Bandag Tyre has set up a nationwide organization for the retreading and supply of rebuilt truck tyres with centres at Wigan, Walsall, Bishop Auckland and Bristol; and stocks are held at Penrith, Lancaster, Wakefield, Scunthorpe, Queensferry, Stoke-on-Trent, Cheltenham, Cardiff, Exeter, Southampton, Kings Langley (NW London? and lngatestone (NE London?. It is claimed that processed tyres have up to twice the mileage life of a conventional hot-remould cover and in most cases a life equal to that of a new tyre.
The tyre rubber is pre-cured at a minimum pressure of 650 psi and in many cases over 1000 psi. After buffing, the pre-cured tread is bonded to the casing using a specially developed adhesive bond. A rubber envelope is then fitted over the tyre which is carried on a special rim, and placed in a large curing chamber, where it is cured at a temperature of 198deg F.
