PARCELS carrier TNT has established a separate company to promote its before noon, next-day delivery service.
This was previously offered as an option within the TNT Overnite next-day service. Now, before-noon deliveries are marketed under the AM Express name and a separate company, AM Express Limited, has been registered as a subsidiary of TNT (UK) Limited.
So far, 54 vehicles have been painted in a new white, red and black AM Express livery. They are also to a new specification: 20 of them are 8.6-tonne gvw Bedford TL860 boxyans and 30 are TL 1260s. All are equipped with tail-lifts, nearside doors and aerodynamic cab roof pods.
Both models share the same 5.4 litre turbo-charged Red Series engine.
TNT has also adopted a new pricing structure for AM Express, based on an overall UK mainland rate rather than a zonal rating system as used on the company's other parcel services.
A TNT spokesman said that the aim is to simplify the rating structure and that AM Express is being used as a "proving ground" for this blanket rating system. He added that the effort .being put into this before-noon next-day service is designed to meet competition from the Royal Mail's Datapost service.
