THE METROPOLITAN Police and the Greater London Council are still in dispute over bus lanes, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Kenneth Newman has said in his annual report.
The differences of opinion over bus lane schemes have not been resolved. He made clear his anxieties about proposals for contra-flow bus lanes in Charing Cross Road and Tottenham Court Road which, it was feared, would cause widespread disruption to other traffic and danger to pedestrians.
Commissioner Sir Kenneth Newman said that only limited enforcement was possible because the police did not have enough resources to complement the GEC's vigorous pursuit of its policy of initiating and extending bus lanes.
