I WRITE further to The Hawk's comment in Bird's-eye View (CM, May 25) concerning Lord Montagifs recent request for milk bottles to complete the milk float in the new Wincanton (parent company Unigate) sponsored commercial vehicle section!
It will not have escaped your "hawk" eyes that the Brush Pony — so painstakingly restored by Unigate Dairies at Harlesden — is from a past era (1955 to be exact) and that the milk bottles then in use Were of a very different shape, size and thickness of glass to those in current circulation.
Unigate certainly have millions of bottles "doing the rounds" but, strangely enough, very few of the old type. 'There must be many of the original bottles still in existence but, these days, they are in the hands of museums and individual collectors hence Lord M's plea!
